Poor ventilation can lead to rapid accumulation of carbon dioxide. Excessive carbon dioxide concentration affects health and productivity, which is a threat to human healthy life. An efficient indoor air quality monitoring system can prevent such problems from occurring. In addition, based on carbon dioxide monitoring, energy savings can be achieved by controlling the ventilation system on demand. To implement these systems quickly and easily, developers must test the systems in a controlled and time-saving manner. To this end, Infineon Technologies AG has introduced the new XENSIV™ PAS CO2 Shield2Go evaluation board, which is suitable for air quality monitoring and demand-controlled ventilation, thereby helping to achieve energy savings.

This new evaluation board is part of Infineon's Shield2Go product portfolio. The product portfolio covers sensors, microcontrollers and safety ICs, which can be freely combined as part of integrated prototyping. The XENSIVTM PAS CO2 Shield2Go evaluation board has a DCDC boost converter to provide the required 12 V power supply for the sensor, so only a 5 V power supply (for example via the USB interface on the microcontroller board) is sufficient, And can be prototyped without an external 12 V power supply.

In addition, this evaluation board is equipped with Infineon ICs and, like all boards in the portfolio, comes with ready-to-use Arduino libraries and an adapter to connect the Shield2Go to common prototyping form factors Arduino Uno and Raspberry PIs 40 pin interface for fast startup. All boards feature solderless connectors, allowing designers to stack directly without soldering.

The Infineon XENSIVTM PAS CO2 sensor on this evaluation board is small in size. The device features high accuracy and robust performance in the ppm range (±30ppm; ±3% of reading), meeting the most stringent air quality regulations and standards. The sensor also features advanced compensation and self-calibration algorithms with UART, I2C, and PWM interfaces, as well as various configuration options such as sample rate, baseline correction, and more.
